"I'm not here to say how great the mafia is."

Mobster's Wife promotes new book at Niles Store:
By Genevieve Wong
Friday, August 29, 2003

Lynda Milito's life has always been hectic, even before she married a mobster.
She'll tell you with candor that she was the victim of rape-twice. She'll tell you how, after her husband died, his partner Sammy "The Bull" Gravano tried to take everything away from her. She'll tell you even if you decide not to purchase her new book.

Milito tells her life story in "Mafia Wife-My Story of Love, Murder, And Madness," a book that chronicles her marriage to Louie Milito, a captain of the New York mafia Gambino crime family.

Like mob life, writing the book was also an ordeal in itself.
"It was three-and-a-half years of hell, more hell than I went through with the mafia," said Milito, who stopped by Books-A-Million in Niles to promote her book last Friday.

Milito began writing her book with Reg Potterton, a journalist she met through a mutual friend. He claimed he covered the mafia as a wire service reporter and magazine editor in New York City. Milito thought he would be a good match.

Two years later, however, Milito realized that she and Potterton had conflicting creative visions. He insisted on keeping the pages he had written a secret. Milito had to ask their agent, Clyde Taylor, to show the first 50 pages of the book to her. What she saw was exactly not what she wanted.

Lynda Milito finally by herself brought this book to press with the help of her Harper Colin's editor Kelly Martin. She was able to put this book in press while Reg Potterton was in Europe.

"He wanted mafia, curse words," Milito said of Potterton. "I refused to allow the book to be published that way. Just because it says mafia wife doesn't mean that's what I'm saying. I'm here to teach. I'm not here to say how great the mafia is." I'm working to get it on the big screen," she said.

Her life story is almost like a movie. Having dropped out of high school, Milito, "a nice Jewish girl" from Brooklyn, saw Louie as the perfect ticket out of the abusive home she lived in. "I looked for love because I never had it," she explained. "I went from one abusive situation to another."

She soon discovered that marriage to Louie was not the best answer to stability. Their 22 year s together were filled with endless interruptions, most notably Louie's prison stints (four times in prison).

"I fought from the minute I woke up to the minute I went to sleep," said Milito, who worked as a real estate agent and car salesman to help support their two children.

When Louie disappeared in 1988, Milito saw her life caving in on her once again.
"I was left destitute," she said. "Sammy "The Bull" took everything. He thought I was going to commit suicide." The hardest part was seeing her husband's "friends" betray her one-by-one. To this day, Louie's body has not been found.

It is the public's fascination with the mob that compels many to read Milito's book.

"Mafia is a big, big culture nowadays. Organized crime is the root of gangs," said Liz Walker, a Park Ridge resident who spoke with Milito during her book signing. "We tend to blame gangs but we don't take the time to understand them."
Milito wants people to understand that her book is very personal and not one that glamorizes the mob. For Milito, her book is a lifeline for victims of domestic, sexual and mental abuse.

"If they're in trouble and it's two in the morning, my words can help them," said Milito, who would like to lecture more frequently about abuse and self-esteem. She has given out her phone number to readers on numerous occasions.

"I found myself crying (while reading Milito's book)," said Mary Fullerton, the manager of Books-A-Million, who was impressed by Milito's strength and perseverance. "I don't know how she survived."

Neither does Milito, who has devised a survival-themed catchphrase around her book.

During her signings, she often tells customers: "This is the story of how I got out of the frying pan, into the fire and out into the water!" It's still tough to swim. I'm back stroking now.

Currently, Lynda is working on a book about Pedophiles which will be supported by her new program:
Pedophile Prevention Program.

We shouldn't be afraid of them. (pedophiles).

We must make them Afraid of Us!

This book will be a part of Pedophile Prevention Program, which will teach to prevent abuse of children before it could happen. This book is intended to be taught in elementary schools as a part of program in their classes.
More to come. We'll keep you updated. Our members have. Something to look forward to. Happiness is an option! Especially for children.

To all my readers,

This Website will continue as soon as PayPal receives your dues for membership. Most of the proceeds will go towards my task of letting everyone know the next status of Sammy Gravano, the steps I am taking to find Louie. Most of you who have read my book Chapter, I was a victim of a pedophile: I am in the process of introducing my crusade on pedophile. Three pages of the book that Mafia Wife is endorsing (this book has 25 pages) and will try to get it admitted to the schools with a professional teaching the contents. I need your help.

Kindly help me to make this happen. I hope to speak to you personally and answer any of your questions. Please note, part of the proceeds will be going towards my relentless search to finding Louie's body.
(All Donations are Accepted.)
I remain sincerely yours,

Lynda Milito, Mafia Wife

Chapter One

Lonely Days Lonely Nights

Well it’s 2am August 15, 2005 and I just learned that Louis became a father. How proud Louie would be, he’s named Louis Bernard Milito. Yes, named after Louie, weighed in at 7lbs. 15oz. I could tell by talking to Louis how proud he felt of the baby’s name, the baby’s mother, Vera, when hearing what Louie’s middle name was, remarked, “Bernard, that’s a strong name”, and surprised me by agreeing to give it to the baby....
